A ‘Helping Hand’ towards ICT Education in Sri Lanka

VitalHub Innovations Lab successfully completed  another Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project of providing ICT infrastructure facilities and knowledge sessions to students of two rural schools in Sri Lanka to facilitate students’ education and help bring their facilities closer to a modern-day world. With the objective of facilitating the ICT education in schools, the setting up of the ICT  Lab with the installation of equipment was done for the Makuluwalahena Kanishata Vidyalaya of Kananke, Matara and Hakbellawaka Kanishata Vidyalaya in Yatiyanthota. In addition to gifting ICT infrastructure equipment, knowledge sharing sessions on online education too were done for the students.

Children who live in these rural areas face major barriers in acquiring ICT education due to lack of infrastructure facilities. Through the company’s 'Helping Hand' project, VitalHub strives to build up ICT education in rural areas. As the initial step, two well deserving schools from two different educational zones were chosen to be developed.

Makuluwalahena Kanishata Vidyalaya of Kananke, Matara which has classes from grade one to five was looking for assistance to establish a new ICT Lab. VitalHub was able to donate computer tables, chairs, and computers to them. The opening ceremony of the newly established ICT Lab was held at the school on the 15th of February 2021 with the participation of students, well-wishers and donors.

VitalHub also donated equipment to upgrade the facilities of Hakbellawaka Kanishata Vidyalaya, Yatiyanthota of the Kegalle district. This school exhibited great success in ICT education several years ago in the Kithulgala Educational Zone  with having limited  resources. Through the 'Helping Hand' project, VitalHub was able to provide a projector, network switch, computers, hardware devices, an internet connection and ICT related books. The handing over of the equipment took place on 20th February at the school premises in accordance with health guidelines. This was followed by an online event few days later, organized by the students of the school in appreciation of the donations they have received and to exhibit their talents. VitalHub team from Colombo office as well as the teams from Canada and UK offices too joined the event online.

The project  expenses amounting to Rs. 1,000,000 was raised through staff donations, committee funds and donations from the company head office, VitalHub Corp.

Commending the projects, President and CEO of VitalHub Corp, Dan Matlow stated, “We are grateful to have created an extremely skilled software development innovation team that we are extremely proud of at VitalHub Innovations Lab. It is important that we as a company give back to the community to help develop more innovation. We would like the recognize the talent early and help them to have a successful career in the ICT industry.” said Dilan Rajapakse, Managing Director of VitalHub Innovations Lab.
